Andy Ritger - Linux and High Dynamic Range Display

Slides, Video

High Dynamic Range (HDR) /rendering/ is well established in graphics applications to produce images with high precision per color component (enabling high contrast). However, this content is usually "tone-mapped" to lower dynamic range to be displayed on current monitors, sacrificing image quality.

Recent advances in display technology offer the prospect of HDR /display/, preserving image quality through the pipeline from rendering to scanout to user vision.

In this talk, I will give an overview of the building blocks of HDR display and outline the necessary pieces for a Linux graphics driver.
